The Australian Labor Party has announced a major new energy policy ahead of the 2025 federal election: the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

Under the proposed rebate, eligible battery systems will receive $372 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable storage—up to a maximum of 50kWh. That means:

A 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall could get $5,022 back
Larger home or small business systems could receive even more

You can even install a battery before July 1, as long as it’s not switched on until the program starts.

⚡ Which Batteries Are Eligible?

To receive the rebate, your battery system must:

Be between 5kWh and 50kWh (systems over 50kWh are allowed, but rebate caps at 50kWh)
Be installed by a Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited installer (Zac Power is fully certified)
Be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) ready—though you won’t be required to join a VPP
